Barbara Walters, National Geographic and More … When we started working with the Alcor Life Extension Foundation a few years ago, media coverage for the nonprofit scientific research organization was focused only on rumor and innuendo concerning a family dispute over a celebrity’s membership. When WalshCOMM was brought on board, we began educating the media about Alcor’s real mission. As a result, Alcor has been the subject of numerous documentaries and articles about the science of cryonics and the role Alcor plays in longevity research. Recent media exposure includes the Wall Street Journal and ABC's "Good Morning America." Alcor staff and members participated in filming for an upcoming Barbra Walters special on life extension, expected to air in early 2007. We also worked closely with a production company for National Geographic filming a documentary, including facilitating the first-of-its-kind filming of an actual cyropreservation. CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” sent a crew out in connection with a medical documentary on life extension, with Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Nearly every day, we receive a request from a US or international media source seeking Alcor’s participation in a story. With so much activity, we now are turning away serious reporters, simply because there is not enough time to handle all of the media requests and continue Alcor’s important mission. It is a nice problem to have.
